Want to be in the band?

The Atascadero Community Band is an all-volunteer organization comprised of musicians from a variety of backgrounds and skill-levels. We welcome members of reasonable experience. While the band is not necessarily the optimum place for a new musician to put their hands on an instrument for the first time, we do welcome and encourage those who perhaps haven’t played in several years. We also welcome area students to join us for summer! Our musicians are comprised of the full spectrum: from professionals and even teachers, to those of us who stopped playing once high school was over, and even a few current high school and middle school students. The key is commitment to the rehearsals and concerts, and a willingness to practice! We rehearse once a week on Tuesday evenings from 7-9pm. These rehearsals are important, as they are the only times we get together to play. If you are currently already in a group that meets on Tuesday nights during our set rehearsal times, we appreciate your zeal for music, and once you have Tuesday nights free, we’d love to have you join us.

The band plays four indoor concerts a year, and the timing of those performances are preset so that we do not overlap with other groups in the area: 4th Sunday in October, 2nd Sunday in December, 1st Sunday in March and the 1st Sunday in May. During the summer months, June through most of August, we play outdoor concerts on Tuesday evenings at the Lake Park. The concert is from 7-8pm, and then we rehearse for the following week’s program from 8-9pm. Occasionally, we have other performance opportunities that are presented to the band for discussion. If they seem like something we can do, then they are put on the calendar. In the past we have done Holiday Lighting Ceremonies, Grand Openings, joint concerts with the Atascadero Middle School, and even appeared at the Colony Days Tent City festivities in Atascadero.
